Maxsus imkoniyatlar toʻgʻrisida bayonot
v1.0 · 22-sentabr, 2026
In short. We want everyone to be able to use this Site, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard only, a large text size or a small phone. We build to the international standard WCAG 2.1 at level AA and test with automated tools and by hand. Some things are not perfect yet; we say which, and we welcome your feedback.
1. Our commitment
Teach For Uzbekistan works for equal opportunity in education. The same principle applies to our website: teachforuzbekistan.org is built to be usable by as many people as possible, in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, to which Uzbekistan is a party.
2. What we have done
- Keyboard: every page can be used with the keyboard alone; a "Skip to content" link is the first element on every page; menus open and close with Enter and Escape and focus returns to the button.
- Screen readers: one heading structure per page, meaningful link texts, labels on every form field, alternative text on images (entered by editors in the content system), the interactive map has a text list of the same regions, and decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
- Contrast and text: colours meet the AA contrast ratio, including the orange brand colour on white at the sizes where it is used; text can be enlarged to 200 % without loss; a light and a dark theme are available and the Site follows your system preference.
- Phones and tablets: the layout adapts from 320 px upwards; nothing requires horizontal scrolling; touch targets are of adequate size.
- Forms: errors are announced and described in words next to the field; the spam check (Cloudflare Turnstile) is invisible and requires no puzzle from you.
- Motion and media: no auto-playing video with sound; videos are embedded from YouTube, where captions can be switched on.
- Languages: the Site is available in Uzbek, Karakalpak, Russian and English; the page language is declared so that screen readers pronounce it correctly.
- An accessibility panel in the header of every page (the person-in-a-circle icon): text size in three steps, high contrast, reduced motion, hide images, underlined links. Your choice is remembered in your own browser and never sent to us.
3. How we test
- Automated checks with axe-core (WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules) on the key pages, run in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit every week and on every change to the tests.
- Keyboard walk-throughs in the same automated suite.
- Lighthouse accessibility audits on the hosted site (score 100 on the home, FAQ, team and Fellowship pages on 17 September 2026).
- A manual review with a screen reader is planned for October 2026; until it has been done it is listed as a known limitation below.
4. Known limitations
- PDF documents (annual reports, media kit) provided by partners or produced before this Site may not be fully accessible. Ask us for the content in another format (section 6).
- Third-party content — embedded YouTube videos, payment providers' pages and the Admissions Portal — is governed by those services; we choose privacy-friendly and accessible options where we can, but cannot guarantee their conformance.
- Karakalpak and Russian translations are being reviewed by native speakers; until then some pages show the Uzbek or English text with a notice.
- Interactive map: the map itself is decorative for assistive technology; the region list next to it carries the same information.
- Screen-reader review pending: the Site has been tested with automated tools and by keyboard, not yet by a person using a screen reader; barriers found in that review will be fixed and listed here.
5. Conformance status
Partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA: the known limitations above are the exceptions. This statement was prepared on 22 September 2026 based on the tests listed in section 3 and is reviewed every six months.
6. Feedback and alternative formats
If you cannot access something on the Site, or need information in another format (large print, plain text, a phone call), write to info@teachforuzbekistan.org or call +998 91 017-90-09. We aim to answer within 5 working days and to fix reported barriers in the next release of the Site.
7. Enforcement
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may contact the state bodies responsible for the rights of persons with disabilities in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
